Tablets & devices

FocalPOS runs on tablets at your salon: a customer tablet where clients check themselves in, and employee tablets your team works from.

Add a device

Open Devices

1. Go to Devices and press Add Device.
2. Give it a Device Name (e.g. Front desk iPad) and an 8-character PIN Code. The PIN protects the device’s settings, so keep it to yourself.
3. For a client check-in tablet, switch on Customer Facing Device. Staff can’t manage appointments from it.
4. Press Create Device.

Sign a tablet in

Tablets (and a lobby TV screen, if you have one) sign in with a one-time code:

1. On the Devices page, press Generate POS OTP and confirm.
2. A 6-digit code appears. It works for 10 minutes.
3. Open the FocalPOS app on the tablet and enter the code.

Caution

Making a new code signs out every tablet that’s currently signed in, so they’ll all need the new code. Do it when the salon is quiet.

Check-in and walk-ins

• Check-in: clients with a booking check themselves in on the customer tablet. Their booking turns Checked In on your calendar.
• Walk-ins: added from the tablet. FocalPOS gives them to whoever is clocked in and free next, so at least one person must be clocked in, or walk-ins can’t be added.

Choose what the tablets show

Settings → POS Settings:

Customer Tablet

• whether clients can choose their stylist or technician
• Show service prices, Show service descriptions, Show estimated wait time
• Add friends & family: check in a group together

Employee Tablet

• Allow sign out from tablet, View past transactions
• Allow custom pricing: let staff change a price at checkout
• Allow customer check-in
